Kempegowda International Airport is in Devanahalli in the north of Bangalore. It is the hub for air travel for the capital of the state of Karnataka. The 4000-acre terminus was opened on May 24, 2008. It then took over as the city's airport from the former HAL Airport.
The airport is 35 kilometers from the city center and can be reached by the well-developed Bellary Road, NH 44, and NH 75. The Blue Line of the metro is under development to it. The line will help to ease travel to the airport from the city.
Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore is named after the city’s founder, Kempe Gowda I. It is third in India in terms of passengers, cargo, and air traffic. It saw 37 million passengers passing through in FY 2024. In 2022–23, it handled more than 410,000 tonnes of cargo.
The airport has two functioning terminals, 1 and 2. From December 2022, Terminal 2 handles all foreign travel. Modern services, such as self-check-in, are now in use. The Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore can be reached from all areas. It is 38 kilometers from the grand enclave of Century Regalia in Domlur in the east of the city. The two are linked by the New Airport Road, NH44, and Bellary Road. It takes about an hour to get to the airport from here.
